Animal Hospital Aims to Get Pets into Good Homes
BELLA VISTA, Ark. (KNWA) — The Bella Vista Animal Shelter has been running Bring Them Home for Christmas since the beginning of December. The promotion is a collaboration with the All Pets Animal Hospital in Rogers and Bentonvile.
“All Pets has done a wonderful thing this year,” said Laurie May, shelter manager at the Bella Vista center. “They’re offering all kinds of tests, fecal testing, heartworm testing, feline leukemia testing, all at their own expense.”
Any animal that’s over $170 in value is eligible for the care. Veterinarian Dr. Wayne Wolfenkoehler came up with the idea.
“There’s a lot of wonderful pets there just waiting for a home,” Dr. Wolfenkoehler said. “And I think there’s a lot of wonderful people that if they had a greater awareness of those pets and their needs would open their homes to them.”
Pat Tucker has a cat that died two years ago. This year she decided she was ready for a new one to keep her dog company. She adopt a orange cat named Jake from the Bella Vista Shelter and said this deal makes it a good time to adopt a new family member.
“I think until you’ve had a pet, particularly a cat and they’ve rubbed up against your leg and they’ve come and touched you, you really don’t know what it’s like,” Tucker said.
May said she hasn’t seen an increase in adoptions since the promotion started, but said people are excited when they find out about it. She hopes the collaboration with the animal hospital will lead to more pets finding their forever families.
“The goal is to make sure animals do get home and to make sure once they are set to go to their home that they have their treatment plan set up for them to live a long and happy life.”
The promotion will run until January 5, and pets can be picked up at the following locations:
Bella Vista Animal Shelter- 32 Bella Vista Way, Bella Vista, AR 72714
Rogers Humane Society- 407 E Nursery Rd, Rogers, AR 72758
After a pet is picked up, they can be taken to All Pets Animal Hospital in Bentonville (209 N. Walton Blvd.) or Rogers (5301 S. Southern Hills Ct.) for care.
